Constructed upon farmland originally purchased by Colonel Winstead in 1799, the famous Pleasant Hill mansion was soon built in 1854 by the Colonel's son, John M. Winstead. After almost 145 years, this huge, sprawling establishment of 600 acres was sold, developing into the modern-day Governors Club and golf course in the late 1990s.

John M. Winstead II constructed the elegant southern mansion known today as Pleasant Hill Mansion. The homesteads remained in the family until 1997 when the land and homes were purchased for The Governors Club's development. Construction of the community's new homes, Clubhouse, amenities, and golf course began in 1999.
