Architect and Art Critic Carlo Bugatti (born February 2, 1856, Milan, Italy-died April 1940, Molsheim, France) was an Italian decorator, designer, and maker of Art Nouveau furniture, jewelry, and musical instruments.

The Bugatti Throne Chair is made of ebonized wood (walnut) inlaid with copper, brass, and pewter. Designs were carved like birds and plants and then filling them with molten metal. ‘X’ Marks the Spot The conservation and correction of a Carlo Bugatti

Carlo Bugatti spent his last months at his apartment at the Bugatti factory in Molsheim, where he frequented the workmen and the house of 'the Hardtmühle', living with Ettore and his family. In April 1940, [4] he died at the hospital in Molsheim. He is buried in the Bugatti family cemetery at Dorlisheim.

Bugatti's furniture attempted to break away from historical conventions, reflecting the Art Nouveau appreciation in nature and the aesthetics of Japan, the architecture of North Africa and the motifs of Islamic art.
